World Naked Bike Ride Day is returning to Buffalo , and yes, there really will be partially clothed and totally naked people riding bicycles through the streets of Upstate New York's largest city. The event is more popular than you might think. Hundreds of rider will show up "bare as they dare" to take to the streets. And you can bet on plenty of spectators.
But the event is more than just a spectacle. Joed Viera Special to newyorkupstate. First of all, it's not just one day. Cities around the world have Naked Bike Ride Day on different days every year. Other than that, it's exactly what it sounds like. People take as many clothes off as they are comfortable with, hop on a bike or a skateboard or in some roller-skates and ride through the city streets.
Some wear underpants, some wear body paint, some just wear pasties. The event aims to raise awareness of the negative impact of car culture and "oil addiction," as well as raise awareness of bicycle riders on roads. It also promotes body positivity, bicycle use and sustainable living. The event's slogan is, "Celebrating freedom from oil, and the beauty of people. When: Saturday, July 13, , 2 p. From there, you will be sent to the actual ride start point and the mile course will be revealed. Topless nudity. You are allowed to be clothed and bring clothes with you.
You may ride bikes, skates, skateboards. No motorized transport. No drugs or alcohol. No littering. No lewd behavior. Caught that did you? While it's perfectly fine as far as the event organizers are concerned, New York only allows topless nudity, legally. Police are within their rights to ticket riders who are displaying anything below the belt, so bare at your own risk, and cover up, if asked by a law enforcement officer.
Tip: If you're concerned, but want to wear your full birthday suit, just stay toward the middle of the pack. Past events have seen participation numbers over , so you can definitely expect a spectacle if you're along the route. All collected money will go directly back into the event, helping fund the space, DJ, snacks and more. The event organizers want to make it clear that Naked Bike Ride Day is not a nudism party.
